Talk: Engineered membranes for desalination by membrane distillation

Dr. Mohamed Khayet is director of the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) Research Group ‘Membranes and Renewable Energies’ affiliated to Campus Moncloa of International Excellence (Madrid, Spain), Professor (Applied Physics Area) at the Faculty of Physical Sciences (UCM) (Department of Structure of Matter, Thermal Physics and Electronics), and Associated Researcher in IMDEA Water Institute (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies on Water, Spain). He got his Ph.D. (1997) in Physical Sciences from the UCM.

Since then he realized various research stays in various international institutions (Industrial Membrane Research Institute in Ottawa, Canada; Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw, Poland; Centre for Clean Water Technologies at the University of Nottingham in UK, Singapore Membrane Technology Centre, Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute, Yale University, University of California Berkeley, etc.). He is an expert in the field of membrane science, nanotechnology and renewable energies.

He has coordinated various national and international projects (over 25) funded by different institutions (European Union, Middle East Desalination Research Centre, Spanish Ministries; Companies such as Abengoa Water, etc.) and participated in more than 20 other projects. He published over 200 papers in international journals with 18340 total citations and an H-index of 75 (Google Scholar). He filed 6 International Patents and published 5 books on membrane science and technology. He published more than 30 chapters in books. Among other recognitions, he received the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) in 2012, and the Fulbright grant in 2019. He edited various special issues in international journals such as Desalination, J. Membrane Science and Research, Polymers and Membranes. He is Editor of the international Journal Desalination and he is member of the Editorial Board of various other journals: Journal of Applied Membrane Science & Technology, Applied Sciences, Journal of Materials Science and Nanotechnology, Scholarena Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Nano Research & Applications, etc. He presented more than 100 oral communications and 50 posters in national and international congresses/workshops, keynotes, plenary lectures and invited presentations in international universities and research centers. He supervised a large number of academic studies (PhD. Thesis, Master Thesis, Graduate studies) and research studies of visiting professors and researchers.
