Description

There are several types of waste and supplementary cementitious materials generated in large volumes, and that creates serious environmental issues related to their disposal. Utilization of such materials not only reduces the burden on the environment, but also reduces the cost of concrete/construction materials; by being used as partial replacement of either cement or fine/coarse aggregates or both.

Waste and Supplementary Cementitious Materials in Concrete provides a current state-of-the-art review of the effective and efficient use of these materials in construction. Chapters focus on a specific type of material and address their characterization, strength and durability and structural applications. Authors have adhered to a high-level outline template to ensure some degree of continuity across the entire volume. This includes: Introduction; Properties of Materials-Physical, Chemical; Characterization of Materials;

Material properties (synthesis of available literature); Strength and Durability issues should be highlighted; Modern engineering applications (synthesis of available literature); case studies, if appropriate; State of Codes and Standards implementation, if any; Role of material in green and sustainable construction; Cost-benefit analysis of using the materials,Leachate Analysis, Conclusion to include a discussion of research needs.

Key Features

  • Focus on material properties and applications (as well as ‘sustainability’ aspects)
  • Assembles leading researchers from diverse areas of study
  • International diversity of authorship
  • Introductory and concluding overview chapters provide dimension and context
  • Potential for use as a ‘one stop’ reference for advanced postgraduate courses focusing on sustainable construction

Readership
