Matthieu Piel Serial Volume Editor

Dr. Piel is author of more than 60 publications. He holds three patents, and is a co-founder of the CYTOO Company. He is teaching at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Institut Cochin. He also teaches cell biology and biophysics in several master courses in Paris. He is one of the founder of Institut Pierre-Gilles de Gennes for Microfluidics. He has been invited to over 30 international meetings and gave over 40 seminars in the last 5 years. He was awaded the Bronze medal of CNRS in 2012.

Dr. Fletcher and his team develops diagnostic technologies and studies mechanical regulation of membrane and cytoskeleton organization in the context of cell motility, signaling, and host-pathogen interactions. His lab specialize in development of optical microscopy, force microscopy, and microfluidic technologies to understand fundamental organizational principles through both in vitro reconstitution and live cell experiments. Recent work includes investigating the mechano-biochemistry of branched actin network assembly with force microscopy, studying membrane deformation by protein crowding and oligomerization with model membranes, and reconstituting spindle scaling in encapsulated cytoplasmic extracts. The long-term goal of his work is to understand and harness spatial organization for therapeutic applications in cancer and infectious diseases.

Junsang Doh Serial Volume Editor

Prof. Doh received his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Seoul National University in 1999. He then moved to MIT for his graduate work with Prof. Darrell J. Irvine in the development of multi-component protein micropatterned surfaces for the study of the immunological synapses formed in T cells during activation. He received his PhD in 2006 in Chemical Engineering/Program in Polymer Science and Technology. As a postdoctoral researcher, Dr. Doh studied homotypic interactions among activating T cells in the laboratory of Max Krummel at UC San Francisco from 2006-2008. In 2008, he joined Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) with a joint appointment in Interdisciplinary Bioscience and Bioengineering (I-Bio) and Mechanical Engineering. Currently, Prof. Doh’s group develops engineering tools such as microfabrication/imaging/mechanics to study fundamental aspects of immune synapses and cell motility in the context of cancer immunotherapy.
