Series: Handbook of Geophysical Exploration: Seismic Exploration

The expansion of concepts and technologies in exploration seismics over the years has been documented in detail by a wealth of articles in journals and reports. However, a researcher or specialist developing new techniques, or applying new techniques, relies on handbooks providing overviews and the status of specialised fields. Reference books provide the prime in-depth coverage for the exploration geophysicist - whether the demand is for details of complicated algorithms, the authoritative definition of a term, or the proper source of a quotation. The Handbook of Geophysical Exploration: Seismic Exploration therefore covers everything of interest to the field of exploration seismology. With over 30 volumes published so far and new volumes being published every year, the handbookseries covers a wide array of topics in the field.

Book Series: Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics

Most recent volume

Volume 41. Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics

Published: 31st May 2012 Authors: V.P. Dimri R.P. Srivastava Nimisha Vedanti

Researchers in the field of exploration geophysics have developed new methods for the acquisition, processing and interpretation of gravity and magnetic data, based on detailed investigations of bore wells around the globe. Fractal Models in Exploration Geophysics describes fractal-based models for characterizing these complex subsurface geological structures.

The authors introduce the inverse problem using a fractal approach which they then develop with the implementation of a global optimization algorithm for seismic data: very fast simulated annealing (VFSA). This approach provides high-resolution inverse modeling results—particularly useful for reservoir characterization.
