Stats - FAQs

1. What is Stats?
Stats is a service you receive as an Elsevier author. Stats includes relevant and updated metrics - citations, usage, readers, media mentions (where available) and more - about all of your publications.

2. How often will I receive alerts from Stats?
You will receive an email approximately every 4 weeks dependent on whether your publications have been viewed and/or cited.

3. Who will see the Stats?
Stats is personal and will only be seen by you as the author. Then it's your decision if you would like to share information about your Stats with your funders and peers.

4. How far back do my publications go? 
Metrics about citations and ScienceDirect downloads (anonymous usage) are included for all publications going back 12 years.

5. Does Stats include publications from all journals?
Publications from all journals in which you have published are included in Stats. Additional metrics are reported, however, for Elsevier publications, including anonymous usage data from our full-text platform, ScienceDirect.

6. How will I know if the metrics being reported are associated with Elsevier or non-Elsevier publications?
Stats will indicate if the metrics are available exclusively for Elsevier-published publications.

7. Will I be required to log in to the system to see my publication data?
Once your Stats page has been created, you will receive an email to view it. Simply follow the link in the email. Your credentials are identical to those you use to login to Mendeley.

8. What are some of the main benefits of a personalized Stats page?
Stats provides you as an author with a more efficient way of tracking metrics about your publications, allowing you to quickly and easily see the impact of any given paper. It also gives you more usage metrics with a greater level of detail.

Key benefits of Stats:

  • It provides you with immediate feedback about the impact of your research.
  • It allows you to easily access statistics and metrics that you can use to demonstrate the importance of your work, such as when applying for funding or when seeking a new position.
  • It facilitates your ability to promote your work, allowing you to share the performance of your publications through streamlined and visually appealing metrics.
  • It provides you with a level of detail about usage that helps you understand how and where in the world your research is being viewed, cited, mentioned and read. This in turn can be used to help inform ideas you may have about future research or collaborations.

9. Is Stats free?
Yes. Linking to Stats and all of the information it contains is free.

10. Will I be able to see the status of my publications whenever I want?
Yes, you can view your personal Stats whenever you choose. Just log in with your Mendeley username and password.

11. What happens if there are no new usage or citations updates to my publications? Will I still receive a monthly alert? 
You will be alerted only when there are new data available on your Stats page, or if you have published a new publication that has been added to the Stats. You will not be alerted if there is no new information.

12. Will I be able to opt out of the email alert but still have access to the Stats to look at whenever I want?
Yes, if you no longer want to be alerted when updates are made to your personal Stats, you can opt out of the email communication. Your Stats will remain online and will continue to be updated as new data become available monthly. You can bookmark your personal Stats page and visit it anytime.

13. Will Elsevier use my registration information to Stats in other ways?
No. We respect your privacy and will not share your credentials with any third parties. We will send you only Elsevier-related information that you have requested to receive. You can read our Privacy Policy here .

14. You have sent me an email about Stats that is not for me as the publications are not mine, what shall I do?
Please go to our Scopus database to update your publication profile here.

15. If I see that publications listed in Stats don’t belong to me, how can I delete those publications from my Stats page?
Please go to our Scopus feedback link here to update your own publication profile.

16. How do I change my email address?  To change/update your email address, please Contact Us and follow the instructions below:

  • Go to the section "I have a question about..."
  • Select "Author profile details correction"
  • Describe your change request in the "Additional Details" field.

Please Note: that it generally takes around one week for an email address to be updated.

17. I have not been sent an invite to register for my own Stats, how can I get access to my Stats?
To register or sign in to access Stats, please follow the steps below:

  • Go to
  • Register to the application or sign in with your Mendeley credentials.
  • Choose your name.
  • Confirm your selection.
  • For new dashboards, you will see a message on your screen to say  "we are preparing your stats". This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many publications you have.
  • When your stats are ready, you will be taken directly to them.

18. Can I expect more of these types of tools from Elsevier? 
Yes! To better support you and your research goals, Elsevier is working to create new services and offerings that combine data from across our products and platforms. These efforts are designed to put you in control of relevant information, to make valuable connections and to deliver higher quality research. Stats is the one of many services that you can expect to see from Elsevier in the months and years ahead.

19. What if there are errors in my personal Stats page? How can I have these corrected?
Please Contact Us. We will then work with you to make any necessary corrections.
