Description
This issue provides a very timely critical overview of geriatric evidence-based practices, the first step toward improving mental health services for older adults. The issue begins with general overviews on evidence-based medicine and the principles used in evaluating scientific evidence. Systematic reviews then evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for a variety of geriatric mental health disorders. In particular, geriatric depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, late-life substance use disorders, schizophrenia, and psychosis associated with dementia and Parkinson's Disease are discussed. A group of articles also review evidence-based practices related to specific settings, such as nursing homes, and home and community-based care.
