Guide for Authors
The journal Metamaterials has been initiated in association with the Metamorphose Network of Excellence
Submission of papers
The publication process for Metamaterials is handled electronically. Papers should be submitted electronically
through the Elsevier Editorial System (EES), by using the
online submission
tool for Metamaterials. Authors submit their article online by simply registering, logging-in, and submitting. Editors will
then invite potential reviewers by e-mail. Detailed instructions on the use of EES are available at
http://ees.elsevier.com/metamaterials.
Please read the “Hints” for information on how to register, and review the “Tutorial for Authors” for a run-through
of the submission process. Please note that you must have an e-mail address to use the online submission system. If you need any further
help, please do not hesitate to contact our Author Support Department at
authorsupport@elsevier.com.
All papers are
subject to refereeing. Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for
publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and by the responsible authorities where the work was carried
out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written
consent of the copyright holder.
Manuscript preparation
General: The corresponding author should be identified
(include a fax number and e-mail address). Full postal addresses and e-mail addresses must be given for all co-authors. Authors should
consult a recent issue of the journal for style if possible. The Editors reserve the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity.
Authors should retain a back up copy of their manuscript/electronic file for reference and safety, since we cannot accept responsibility
for damage or loss of papers/manuscripts. Original manuscripts (in case of non-electronic submission) are discarded one month after publication
unless the Publisher is asked to return original material after use.
The manuscripts should be written in good English and should
be typed throughout. Each page should be numbered, and the article title, author and co-author names, complete affiliation(s) (name of
institution, city, state, and zip code), contact information (e-mail address and fax and telephone numbers), and a short abstract should
be included on page 1. One to four classification codes (PACS-1998) and up to six keywords of the author's choice should be given below
the abstract.
Abstracts: All articles and Notes should be prefaced by a brief Abstract. Authors should not include references
in Abstracts.
Text: It is preferable that the manuscript is formatted in a compact form (single line interval, using full
page width and height). Follow this order when typing manuscripts: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, PACS, Main text,
Acknowledgements, Appendix, References. The corresponding author should be identified with an asterisk and footnote. All other footnotes
(except for table footnotes) should be identified with superscript Arabic numbers. The authors are requested to mark those passages which
may be printed in small type. The authors using LaTeX for manuscript preparation, should provide the .tex source file, bibliography files
(in case the references are not included into .tex file) and the source files for all the figures (preferably in .eps format as acceptable
by comon TeX systems). The figures can be called from within the main text, and will be automatically inserted by EES when the manuscript
is compiled. It is advisable however to include a separate page for Figure Captions and Table Captions. It is possible to use the Elsevier
class file
http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/authorsview.authors/elsarticle) with 3p option (either one-column or two-column)
or any other common suitable class (standard LaTeX classes or RevTex classes provided that [draft] option is not used).
The authors
using other means of manuscript preparation (e.g. MS-Word), should not import the Figures or Tables (except for the Tables prepared with
the word processor) into the text. Submission should include the source (editable) file of the main text (.doc), including the list of
Figure Captions and Table Captions; and separately the source files for all the figures and external Tables, and each Figure/Table file
should be clearly labelled to identify the Figure/Table number.
References: All publications cited in the text should be
presented in a list of references following the text of the manuscript. In the text refer to references by a number in square brackets
on the line (e.g. "since the work of Veselago [1] it is known"), and the full reference should be given in a numerical list at the end
of the paper. References should be given in the following form:
[1] W. Whaling, W.H.C. Anderson, M.T. Carle, J.W. Brault, H.A. Zarem,
Argon ion linelist and level energies in the hollow-cathode discharge, J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer (1995) 53:1-22.

[4]A.W. Overhauser.

Figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in order of mention in the text; each figure should have a descriptive
legend. Legends should be presented separately, double-spaced, like the text. Please visit our Web site at
http://authors.elsevier.com/artwork
for detailed instructions on preparing electronic artwork.
Colour: Authors will be charged for colour at current printing
costs.
Tables: Tables should be numbered consecutively and given a suitable caption and each table typed on a separate sheet.
Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table and should be referred to by superscript lowercase letters. No vertical rules should
be used. Tables should not duplicate results presented elsewhere in the manuscript, (e.g. in graphs).
Language: Manuscripts
should be written in good English. Information on language and copyediting services (provided by companies) to authors who need assistance
before they submit their article for peer review or
before it is accepted for publication is available on
http://authors.elsevier.com/LanguageEditing.html.
After Acceptance
When your manuscript is received by the Publisher it is considered to be in its final form. Proofs
are not to be regarded as “drafts”.
A pdf file of the proof will be sent by e-mail to the author (first named author
if no corresponding author is identified of multi-authored papers) in order to check that no undetected errors have arisen in the typesetting
or file conversion process. At the proof stage only printer's errors may be corrected. No changes in, or additions to, the edited manuscript
will be accepted. In order to guarantee the fastest possible production times, the corrections should be sent, preferably by e-mail,
within 3 days of receipt. If no reply is received from the author, the Publisher assumes that there are no further corrections to be
made and will proceed with publication of the article.
Copyright Transfer
All authors must sign the Transfer of Copyright
agreement before the article can be published. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. If excerpts
from other copyrighted works are included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s)
in the article. Elsevier has pre-printed forms for use by Authors in these cases: contact Elsevier's Rights Department, Oxford, UK: phone
