The Journal of Number Theory will publish selected research papers representing the broad spectrum of interest of contemporary
number theory and allied fields.
Submission of Manuscripts
Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts in English, but
other languages, such as French and German, are acceptable. In all cases, papers should be written in a clear, concise, and grammatical
style.
Submission to this journal proceeds totally online. Via the journal homepage (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/jnt)
you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. The system automatically converts source files to
a single Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the article, which is used in the peer-review process. Please note that even though manuscript
source files are converted to PDF at submission for the review process, these source files are needed for further processing after acceptance.
All correspondence, including notification of the editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail and via the author's
home page, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail.
Original papers only will be considered. Manuscripts are accepted for review
with the understanding that the same work has not been and will not be nor is currently submitted elsewhere, and that its submission
for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out; further, that any person
cited as a source of personal communications has approved such citation. Written authorization may be required at the editor's discretion.
Articles and any other material published in the Journal of Number Theory represent the opinions of the author(s) and should
not be construed to reflect the opinions of the editor(s) and the publisher.
Please do not submit duplicate copies of manuscripts.
If you are trying to make revisions to an article previously submitted to this journal on EES, please send the editorial office the original
manuscript number and they will be able to assist you.
Copyright and Permissions
Upon acceptance of an article, authors
will be asked to sign a "Journal Publishing Agreement" (for more information on this and copyright see http://www.elsevier.com/copyright).
Acceptance of the agreement will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. An e-mail (or letter) will be sent to the corresponding
author confirming receipt of the manuscript together with a 'Journal Publishing Agreement' form.
If excerpts from other copyrighted
works are included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article. Elsevier
has preprinted forms for use by authors in these cases: contact Elsevier's Rights Department, Oxford, UK: phone (+44) 1865 843830, fax
(+44) 1865 853333, e-mail permissions@elsevier.com. Requests may also be completed online via the Elsevier homepage (http://www.elsevier.com/locate/permissions).
Manuscript Preparation
Authors are strongly encouraged to use the LaTeX template. Please
click here for the Elsevier LaTeX package (including detailed instructions for LaTeX preparation). If the article is written
using Elsevier's document class 'elsart', or alternatively the standard document class 'article', proofs will be produced without rekeying
the text. The Elsevier LaTeX package (which includes detailed instructions for LaTeX preparation) consists of the files elsart.cls (use
this file if you are using LaTeX2e, the current version of LaTeX), elsart.sty and elsart13.sty (use these two files if you are using
LaTeX3.09, the previous version of LaTeX), guidelines for users of elsart, a template file for quick start, and the instruction booklet
"Preparing Articles with LaTeX."
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout. Number all pages consecutively and organize the
paper as follows.
Title page (page 1). This page should contain the article title, authors' names and complete affiliations,
footnotes to the title, and the address for manuscript correspondence (including e-mail address and telephone and fax number).
Abstract (page 2). A concise and factual abstract is required (maximum length 150 words). The abstract should state briefly the purpose of
the research, the principal results and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separate from the article, so it must be able
to stand alone.
Keywords (page 2). Immediately after the abstract, provide a maximum of 10 keywords, avoiding general and
plural terms and multiple concepts (avoid, for example, "and", "of"). Be sparing with abbreviations: only abbreviations firmly established
in the field may be eligible. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.
References. A suggested style for references
to the literature is citation by number in brackets in the text as [1], [1,2], [1, Theorem 1.5] and listing in alphabetical order at
the end. Please note the following examples:
[1] A. Agashe, W. Stein, Visibility of Shafarevich-Tate groups of abelian varieties,
J. Number Theory 97 (2002) 171-185.
[3] D.R. Hayes, A brief introduction to Drinfeld modules, in: D. Goss, D.R. Hayes, M.I. Rosen (Eds.), The Arithmetic of
Function Fields, de Gruyter, Berlin, 1992, pp. 1-32.
For unpublished lectures or symposia, include the title of the paper, name of
the sponsoring society in full, and the date. For journal names, follow ''Abbreviations of Names of Serials reviewed in Mathematical
Reviews'' (American Mathematical Society, 1995). When in doubt about employing certain abbreviations, use clarity as a guide.
Footnotes. In text, footnotes should be avoided. If absolutely necessary, identify them by superscript Arabic numerals in order
of their appearance and type them together on a separate page, double-spaced.
Tables. Number tables consecutively with Arabic
numerals in order of appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title directly
above and essential footnotes below.
Figures. Number figures with Arabic numerals. Digital artwork of at least 300 dpi resolution
is accepted in EPS or TIFF format. A detailed guide on electronic artwork is available on our Web site at http://www.elsevier.com/artworkinstructions. Type all legends consecutively on a separate sheet.
Color art is permissible, but the extra printing
costs will be charged to the author. However, if together with your accepted article you submit usable color figures, then Elsevier will
ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in color on the Web (e.g., ScienceDirect and other sites) regardless
of whether these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For color reproduction in print, you will receive information
regarding the costs after receipt of your accepted article.
Please note: Because of technical complications that can arise in converting
color figures to "gray scale" (for the printed version should you not opt for color in print), please submit in addition usable black-and-white
files corresponding to all the color illustrations.
Equations. Numbers for displayed equations should be placed in parentheses
at the right margin. References to equations should use the form ''Eq. (3)'' or simply ''(3).''
Preparation of Multimedia ContentVideo Abstract
In the event that your paper is accepted for publication, we cordially invite you to be ready to submit a
multimedia video file that summarizes the contributions of your paper (herein referred to as a "Video Abstract"). Although submission
of the Video Abstract is optional, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this unique and exciting opportunity to supplement
your published work.
All submitted videos will be evaluated for content, length, technical clarity and professionalism according
to the following guidelines:
File prepared in one of the following formats: MPEG, MOV, AVI, GIF
•Running time between
2-3 minutes in length; not longer than 4 minutes
Accepted Video Abstract files will be made available with the online version of the article as supplementary material. Accepted
Video Abstracts will also be hosted on Journal of Number Theory's online platform (http://www.youtube.com/user/JournalNumberTheory).
A link to the video on this site will publish with the printed article below the textual abstract.
In the event that your paper
is accepted, you will be contacted by the Editorial Office for further details on the submission of your Video Abstract file.
If
you have questions about Video Abstracts for Journal of Number Theory in the meantime, please contact: jnt@math.ohio-state.edu.
Please note that submission of the Video Abstract will not be considered prior to acceptance for publication.
Proofs
PDF proofs will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author. Corrections should be returned promptly.
The corresponding author,
at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the article via e-mail or, alternatively, 50 free paper offprints. The PDF file is a
watermarked version of the published article and includes a cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer outlining the terms
and conditions of use. Additional paper offprints can be ordered by the authors. An order form with prices will be sent to the corresponding
author.
