An Interdisciplinary Journal of Research on Excited State Processes in Condensed Matter
Guide for Authors
Submission of papers
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their paper electronically through the journal's on-line submission
and peer-review systems at http://ees.elsevier.com/lumin.
Please follow the instructions given on this site: you will
be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the - various - file(s). Once the uploading is done, our system automatically
generates an electronic (PDF) proof, which is then used for reviewing. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision
and requests for revision, will be by e-mail, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail.
Alternatively authors can submit outside
of the electronic submission system by sending three hard copies of the manuscript and matching disk or email directly to:
Prof.
Dr. R.S. Meltzer
Editor Journal of Luminescence
Department of Physics and Astronomy
The University of Georgia
Athens,
GA 30602, USA
For specific enquiries on the preparation of electronic figures, please consult http://www.elsevier.com/artwork.
Original material. Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published previously, that it is not under
consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and by the responsible authorities where the
work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language,
without the written consent of the publisher.
Types of contributions
Original research papers and Review articles are
welcome. Both should contain an Abstract (of up to 200 words) and a Conclusion section, which, particularly in the case of theoretical
papers, translates the results into terms readily accessible to most readers.
Manuscript preparation
All manuscripts
should be written in proper English. The paper copies of the text should be prepared with double line spacing and wide margins, on numbered
sheets. Language Services. Authors who require information about language editing and copyediting services pre- and post-submission
please visit http://www.elsevier.com/locate/languagepolishing or contact authorsupport@elsevier.com for
more information. Please note Elsevier neither endorses nor takes responsibility for any products, goods or services offered by outside
vendors through our services or in any advertising. For more information please refer to our Terms & Conditions at http://www.elsevier.com/termsandconditions. Authors should retain a back up copy of their manuscript/electronic file for reference and safety, since we cannot accept responsibility
for damage or loss of papers/manuscripts. Original manuscripts (in case of non-electronic submission) are discarded one month after publication
unless the Publisher is asked to return original material after use. Structure. Please adhere to the following order of
presentation: Article title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Abstract, PACS codes and Keywords, Main text, Acknowledgements, Appendices, References,
Figure captions, Tables. Corresponding author. The name, complete postal address, telephone and fax numbers and the E-mail
address of the corresponding author should be given on the first page of the manuscript. PACS codes/Keywords. Please supply
one to four classification codes (PACS and/or MSC) and up to six keywords of your own choice that describe the content of your article
in more detail. References. References to other work should be consecutively numbered in the text using square brackets
and listed by number in the Reference list. Please refer to the more detailed instructions for examples.
If you are not submitting online,
illustrations should also be submitted in triplicate: one master set and two sets of copies. The line drawings in the master
set should be original laser printer or plotter output with careful lettering, large enough (3-5 mm) to remain legible after reduction
for printing. Photographs should be originals, with somewhat more contrast than is required in the printed version. They should
be unmounted unless part of a composite figure. Any scale markers should be inserted on the photograph, not drawn below it.
Colour
plates. Figures may be published in colour, if this is judged essential by the Editor. If together with your accepted article, you
submit usable colour figures then Elsevier, will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in colour on the web
(e.g., ScienceDirect and other sites) regardless of whether or not these illustrations are reproduced in colour in the printed version.
Information on the cost of colour reproduction in print will be sent to you by Elsevier on receipt of your accepted article. For further
information on the preparation of electronic artwork, please see http://www.elsevier.com/locate/authorartwork.
Please
note: Because of technical complications which can arise by converting colour figures to "grey" scale (for the printed version should
you not opt for colour in print) please submit in addition usable black and white prints corresponding to all the colour illustrations.
Further information is available from the Publisher.
After acceptance
When your manuscript is received by the Publisher
it is considered to be in its final form. Proofs are not to be regarded as "drafts". A .pdf file of the proof will be sent by e-mail
to the author (first named author if no corresponding author is identified on multi-authored papers) in order to check that no undetected
errors have arisen in the typesetting or file conversion process. At the proof stage, ordinarily only printer's errors should be corrected.
Other changes, if substantial, are subject to approval by the editor who accepted the paper. Stylistic changes should not be made in
proof. In order to guarantee the fastest possible production times, the corrections should be sent, preferably by e-mail, within 2 days
of receipt. If no reply is received from the author, the Publisher assumes that there are no further corrections to be made and will
proceed with publication of the article.
