JOURNAL OF NON-NEWTONIAN FLUID MECHANICS

Guide for Authors

Submission for all types of manuscripts to Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics proceeds totally online at External link http://ees.elsevier.com/jnnfm/. At the Elsevier Editorial System (EES) Web site, you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. When submitting a manuscript to EES, authors need to provide an electronic version of their manuscript. For this purpose only original source files are allowed; no PDF files will be accepted. Authors must select an editor from the list and document classifications for their manuscripts. Once the uploading is done, the system automatically generates an electronic (PDF) proof, which is then used for reviewing. All correspondence, including the editor's decision and request for revisions, will be by e-mail via EES. Submission of an article is understood to imply that the article is original and unpublished and is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Those intending to write a review should first contact the Editors, Gareth McKinley (gareth@mit.edu) or Roland Keunings (roland.keunings@inma.ucl.ac.be). Letters to the Editor, book reviews and meeting/course announcements are also welcome.

Language: Please use good clear English. Consult a native speaker and/or dictionary where necessary.

Manuscript preparation: The manuscript should be double spaced with wide margins. The content should be ordered as follows: title, author(s) name(s), affiliations and addresses, abstract, keywords, text, acknowledgement(s), list of symbols, appendix(es), references, figure captions, tables. Illustrations must be original drawings or sharp black and white prints. If figures are taken from copyrighted material, it is understood that the author has obtained permission from the copyright holder for their reproduction. Notations and details must be legible after reduction. Please number the figures consecutively and refer to them in the text. Equations should be punctuated as part of the text. The references should be numbered consecutively throughout the text and collected together in a reference list at the end of the paper. Please use the following system:

Periodicals: [1] H.A. Barnes, A review of the slip (wall depletion) of polymer solutions, emulsions and particle suspensions in viscometers: its cause, character, and cure, J. Non-Newtonian Fluid Mech., 56 (1995) 221.
Please note the reference should nclude the article title in full.

Edited volumes: [2] G.H.Meeten and J.D. Sherwood, in P. Moldenaers and R. Keunings (Eds.), Theoretical and Applied Rheology, Vol. 2, Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1992, Chapter 7.

Conference proceedings, symposia, etc: [3] A.G. Marshall, in P.G. Kistemaker and N.M.M. Nibbering (Eds.), Advances in Mass Spectrometry, Proc. 12th International Mass Spectrometry Conference, Amsterdam, 26-30 August 1991, Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1992, p. 37.

LaTeX. When using LaTeX, preferably the Elsevier document class "elsart", or alternatively, the standard document class "article" or the document style "revtex" should be used. The Elsevier LaTeX package (including detailed instructions for authors) can be obtained using anonymous FTP from the Comprehensive TeX Archive Newtork (CTAN) from the FTP External link ftp://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/elsevier directory. The participating hosts in the Comprehensive TeX Archive Network are: United Kingdom and in Germany. For more information about CTAN and TeX related resources, see External link http://www.tug.org/index.html#software. The files, as well as instructions in the form of a booklet can be obtained from the Publisher.

The Publisher reserves the right to decide whether to process a manuscript from the authors' file or not. Files coded in a simple and consistent manner are most likely to be used for production.

Colour: Colour illustrations can be reproduced at the author's expense. The author should contact the publisher for details (Fax: (44) (0) 1865 314 990. E-mail: ees@elsevier.co.uk).

Referees: Every paper is subject to peer-review. Authors may suggest suitable referees for their paper, although the Editor will not necessarily approach them.

Offprints:The corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the article via e-mail or, alternatively, 25 free paper offprints. The PDF file is a watermarked version of the published article and includes a cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer outlining the terms and conditions of use.
