Elsevier’s SciVerse Application Marketplace and Developer Network receives DPAC award for Best Digital Publishing Platform Innovation (BS). Every year, the Digital Publishing & Advertising Awards (DPAC) are given to companies that demonstrate leadership and innovation in digital publishing, branding and advertising. This year, SciVerse received the award for Best Digital Publishing Platform Innovation (B2B) for the beta launch of SciVerse Applications in November 2010.

Prof. Marvin Bauer, Editor–in-Chief of the journal Remote Sensing of Environment, received the 2010 William T. Pecora Award, presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by individuals or groups toward understanding the Earth by means of remote sensing. This award was presented by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Professor Robert (Bob) G. Edwards, Editor Emeritus of Reproductive BioMedicine Online (RBMOnline), was awarded with the 2010 Nobel Prize in Medicine for the development of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), a breakthrough that has helped millions of infertile couples worldwide to have children. Professor Edwards founded the journal RBMOnline in 2000 and published it independently for 10 years.
The Nobel Prize was awarded to nine researchers from the fields of Medicine Physics, Chemistry and Economics. These Nobel Laureates have published in Elsevier journals and books, and some of them served as editors and editorial board members. Elsevier launched an online Nobel tribute to honor these Nobel Laureates and to offer free access to their research.
Professor Dr. Alexander (Sandy) Lawson, Research and Development Director, received the 2011 Herman Skolnik Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to and achievements in the theory and practice of chemical information science and related disciplines. This award is presented by the American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Chemical Information (CINF).
J. Robert Selman, Distinguished Research Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology and author of over 135 journal papers, was awarded the prestigious Grove Medal at the Grove Fuel Cell Science & Technology conference. This Medal is a distinction awarded to those who have made valuable contributions towards the development and success of fuel cell technology.

Two of Elsevier’s medical titles won first prize in their respective categories at the annual BMA Medical Book Competition ceremony. An additional 22 Elsevier books were highly commended. The winning titles were Color Atlas of Clinical Hematology, 5th edition by A. Victor Hoffbrand, John E. Pettit, and Paresh Vyas, and Kumar & Clarik’s Clinical Medicine, 7th edition by Parveen Kumar and Michael Clark.

Cédric Villani, one of Elsevier’s Functional Analysis Editors-in-Chief was the recipient of the 2010 Fields Medal, the most prestigious award that can be earned for Mathematics. Presented every four years at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM), it is meant to recognize potential and achievement in the field.

The editors of the journal Chemical Physics Letters announced that the third Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences was awarded to Prof. William H. Miller, for his outstanding contributions to the theory of chemical reactions. The Ahmed Zewail Prize in Molecular Sciences is awarded on a biennial basis to an individual scientist who has made significant and creative contributions to any of the disciplines of molecular sciences.

The Healthcare Consortium of the Clinical Practice Model Resource center (CPMRC), an Elsevier company, is the 2010 recipient of the National Academies Practice (NAP) Interdisciplinary Group Recognition Award. The NAP award recognizes CPMRC’s 25-year-old Healthcare Consortium of nearly 300 healthcare organizations for implementing an innovative interdisciplinary professional practice framework across multiple care settings through interdisciplinary teams.

Elsevier’s ongoing efforts to meet customers’ accessibility needs helped win the first Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) TechDis Publisher Lookup Awards, presented at the 2010 London Book Fair. The TechDis award highlights the benefits of digital formats for disabled users.
