PRODUCTION SPEED

At Elsevier Editorial-Production, we recognize the need for fast and accurate publication of journal articles. We continue to increase the speed that articles are made available to the scientific communities we serve.

Elsevier’s Production Tracking system and Electronic Warehouse seamlessly link EES, global suppliers like typesetters and printers, various publishing platforms including ScienceDirect, abstracting and indexing services and Elsevier’s Journal Managers: thus enabling a fully electronic and paperless end-to-end publication process with minimum waiting time and no mailing time required. The process of tracking journal articles in production is also made transparent to the benefit of those editors and authors who wish to know the status of any accepted article.

Moreover, we are able to publish early forms of accepted articles; uncorrected and unformatted articles can be published on ScienceDirect within days of acceptance, and corrected, formatted proofs (articles in press) and early online issue publication with fully citable volume and issue information are the norm for many journals. The choice of whether to publish, for example, uncorrected proofs is made on a journal-by-journal basis: not all journals publish every stage of an article. For journals published on a quarterly basis or journals where speed to publication is a competitive necessity, Elsevier’s emphasis on online publication well in advance of print publication eliminates the long printing and mailing time of the traditional print publication model, and publication of uncorrected proofs and articles in press liberates articles from the schedule restrictions of assignment and completion of a full issue.
