Description
Children with special needs need special toys to help them realize their full potential. Roma Lear, a Froebel-trained teacher, started her carer by teaching children in hospital wards. Her innate creativity and enthusiasm led her to devise toys and games with which to hold the interest of sick, and often bed-bound children. While raising her own family, she first became involved in playgroups, then established the Kingston Toy Library and later became a Home Tutor for children with special needs. These experiences culminated in three very successful editions of Play Helps, which has been translated into several languages and has become an established source-book for parents, therapists, teachers and others helping children with special needs. In the fourth edition:
* a compilation of the best toys and games from Play Helps and More Play Helps plus many more ideas
* as in previous editions, the text is organised under the five senses and, for easy access, each chapter begins with a contents list
*new sections have been added on making play possible and what to do with easily obtainable materials such as cardboard boxes and odd socks
* an inspirational source of ideas for toys that brothers, sisters and friends can make for each other Everyone working with children with special needs - parents, therapists, toy librarians, teachers, health visitors, playgroup leaders, child minders and all who play with children in hospitals, hostels or at home will find this book indispensable.
