Exercise: Link Is Seen Between Crime and Fitness
A recent paper published in The Social Science Journal focussed on the link between crime and fitness. The physical characteristics of about 5,000 Arkansas inmates were studied and it was found that most were athletically fit when they entered prison. The study also found that those less athletically fit were less likely to have been imprisoned for violent crimes. The paper has attracted attention from the New York Times

Poetics, Journal of Empirical Research on Culture, the Media and the Arts, founded in 1971, has moved to become a major international outlet for empirical social-science research on culture in a broad sense. Social Science and Medicine calls for papers for a Special Issue entitled New Approaches to Researching Patient Safety, to be guest edited by Rick Iedema.
The Special Issue will broaden the scope of existing approaches to patient safety and quality of care by inviting papers which report on research that engages with in situ clinical work, research that uses methods that are sensitive to clinical and organizational complexity, and research that displays awareness of the complexities created as a result of the research process itself and its impact on existing clinical work processes.
