nteractions between multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and artificial intelligence (AI) have been recently explored by several researchers in order to develop enhanced methodologies for knowledge-based decision support. Within this context, new techniques have been proposed for handling uncertainty and vagueness using fuzzy/rough set theory, new preference models have been developed, and new computing methodologies have been used in complex MCDA problems based on evolutionary techniques. The aim of this feature issue is to present the most recent advances on the development of knowledge-based multi-criteria decision support methodologies, exploring the interactions between MCDA, AI and soft computing techniques such as evolutionary computing, fuzzy sets, rough sets, neural networks, neuro-fuzzy systems, support vector machines, etc. The issue will publish selected papers presented at the 18th International Conference on MCDM, to be held in Chania in 2006, but also other submissions are welcome.
