Call for papers: The International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Directed Issue on “Mitochondrial Dynamics and Function in Biology and Medicine".
The morphological dynamics of mitochondria is now at the forefront of research in organelle physiology and pathology. The recently intensified work in this area has led to a number of findings connecting mitochondrial dynamics to various aspects of cell function including cell metabolism, apoptosis and aging.
The International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is dedicating a special issue to this topic entitled “Mitochondrial Dynamics and Function in Biology and Medicine" edited by Rodrigue Rossignol (University of Bordeaux, France) and Mariusz Karbowski (NIH, Bethesda, USA). The topics will cover the molecular basis of mitochondrial fusion and fission and its physiological links with cell metabolism, bioenergetics, apoptosis and mitoptosis, organellar biogenesis, lipid metabolism, intracellular trafficking, oxidative stress, cell signalling, cell division, aging, and diseases (e.g. cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, diabetes, metabolic syndrome). This new directed issue will include invited reviews by leaders in the field of mitochondrial research. Related original papers on the novel technologies and methodological approaches used for monitoring mitochondrial physiology in situ (e.g. microscopy, cellular probes) will also be considered. All articles will be peer-reviewed according to the policies of IJBCB.
The deadline for all the submissions is 15 November 2008. The Guide to Authors is available on the journal website http://www.elsevier.com/locate/biocel.
Please contact IJBCB's Managing Editor, Joanna Kargul (ijbcb@ucl.ac.uk) for further information.
