External link  Paths reunited: initiation of the classical and lectin pathways of complement activation
Wallis, R, Schwaeble, W. J., Schmid, R., and Keeble, A. H. (2010), volume 215, issue 1

The cover story of Issue 215/1 is a landmark review by Dr. Russell Wallis and colleagues summarising the pioneering achievements of this team of scientists in resolving the structure of the multimolecular recognition complexes of the classical and the lectin pathway activation routes of complement. This work has provided a novel perspective of the interactions, similarities and functional differences in the organisation of these key components of the innate and the adaptive immune response and provides a comprehensive new understanding of the structure/function equilibrium that is responsible for the cognitive processes that regulate the activation of the potent humoral immune response mediated through complement activation.
