General search tips
To perform a search, enter your keyword(s) in the box provided and click on the Search button. Use multiple words when possible. The more information you enter, the more specific and accurate your search results will be.
You can make use of the Boolean operators OR, AND, ANDNOT between search terms:
- AND - your search results will contain all of your search terms. If you enter two search terms without any operator, the system will consider this an AND relation.
For example: women AND health will return results that contain both the words women and health in the text.
- OR - your search results will contain at least one of your search terms.
For example: algebra OR trigonometry will return results that either contain the word algebra or the word trigonometry or both in the text.
- ANDNOT - your search results will contain your first search term but not the latter.
For example: forensic medicine ANDNOT legal medicine will return results that contain the word forensic medicine in the text but not the word legal medicine.
Special operators
You can include various search operators to retrieve results that include specific characters, word roots, suffixes etc.
- Wildcarding * - The asterisk is a wildcard that can replace zero, one or more letters. Please enter a minimum of three letters of the relevant search term in front of the wildcard; you cannot use this wildcard in the middle of a search term.
For example: bio* will return results that contain words like biology, biochemist, biomedical...
- Parentheses ( ) - Use parentheses to group complex Boolean phrases with more than two search terms.
For example: (absorption or desorption) and gases will return results with either the words absorption of gases or the words desorption of gases or both combinations in the text.
- Quotes " and “ - Use these double quotes around the search terms when you want to search literally on a specific phrase and/or special characters.
For example: "addictive behaviors" returns results that contain this specific phrase in the text.
back to topAll Elsevier Sites Search
The "All Elsevier Sites Search" allows you to search the entire Corporate Website, excluding the Product information. The results will include information about jobs, news & events, the "About Elsevier" pages etc.
On top of this, it also includes a search through all Elsevier marketing webpages and all online available full texts from Elsevier products.
At every page you can choose to use this search option.
The full text search results are powered by the scienctific search engine Scirus and will be presented in a separate browser window. These results will only be selected from all online available full texts from Elsevier products (mainly journal articles).

- The search box keyword allows you to enter one or more keywords or search terms, based on the above mentioned General search tips

- The search box ISBN/ISSN allows you to search for a publication with a specific ISBN or ISSN.

For example: 'After 1998' returns results about books published since 1998 up until this moment.
Another Example: 'After December 1999' and 'Before January 2001' returns results about books published in 2000.
In the second half of the page you can limit your search to one or more specific subject or scientific areas and to one or more specific publication or product types.
In certain cases, a publication could be cross-disciplinary and therefore logically classified in more than one area. If you are unsure of how the publication you are looking for has been classified we suggest you select all relevant subject areas to ensure the best and most complete results. You can do so by making use of the standard windows combination of holding down the Control-key and clicking through the relevant subject areas.
To get the best results from your query we recommend that you refine your search as specifically as possible.
