  • J. Angel Fernandez is member of Ecology Unit (Department of Cellular Biology and Ecology, Faculty of Biology) at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1999 and in 2000 he joined, as an Assistant Professor, to the staff of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Since June 2012 he enjoys a Professor permanent position. His primary research interest is the assessment, by means of biomonitors, of pollutant levels in natural ecosystems (terrestrial, fluvial and coastal) and in urban areas. In the last 20 years his work has been focused mainly in improving the standardization of biomonitoring techniques, trying to optimize these tools and enhance its use. He has coordinated national and international research projects and is co-author of nearly 90 articles in international journals.  Since 2011 he is member of the Editorial Board of Science of the Total Environment.
