Alex Widmer was born in Basel and has studied Biology at ETH Zurich. After PostDoc positions in Switzerland, France and the US he has become Associate Professor for Plant Ecological Genetics at ETH Zurich in 2005. His research focuses on the ecological and evolutionary consequences of hybridization, the genetics of adaptation and differentiation, and on the evolution of complex genomes. For his research he uses molecular methods in combination with field and greenhouse experiments.
