This journal offers authors two options (open access or subscription) to publish their research and is actively committed to transitioning to a fully open access journal.
Achieving food security from the local to global levels requires that actions are taken throughout the food system and that address the complexity of technological, biophysical, institutional, economic, social, and political factors that influence the availability, access, quality, and sustainability of food. In so doing, it aims to promote food systems that meet human food and nutritional requirements whilst protecting the environment, securing livelihoods, mitigating against climate change, and reducing inequalities.
Global Food Security enables researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to access and engage with the most recent research and perspectives on food security drawn from across the diversity of disciplines that contribute to understanding of how sustainable food security can be achieved for all. It aims to be an internationally recognized resource that presents cutting-edge research and perspectives in a manner that is accessible to a diverse audience.
Global Food Security publishes papers that contribute to better understanding of the drivers of sustainable food security and how challenges to achieving this can be most effectively overcome. In so doing, it welcomes contributions:
From across the natural and social sciences.
That are interdisciplinary in their focus.
Are rooted in strong science and employ rigorous methods.
Clearly articulate implications for global food security, and especially beyond the immediate geographical context on which they focus.
Importantly, Global Food Security aims to stimulating debate over the solutions to food security challenges from the local to global levels and the actions needed to enhance food security in a manner that is equitable and sustainable. Aiming to be accessible to a multidisciplinary audience, contributions must be concise and accessible to those with diverse disciplinary backgrounds and perspectives.
Global Food Security publishes three types of manuscript:
Review papers that provide a rigorous and concise overview of the current state of knowledge on the food security status and related solutions at the local to global level. Ideally these would be based on a systematic review of the existing literature, but more ad hoc reviews will be considered if the use of a more formal review process is justified.
Original research that reports the findings of original scientific analysis that may involve primary and/or secondary data and that employs rigorous methods that are described in a manner that is accessible to a multidisciplinary audience.
Perspectives that addressing an emerging or current topic or debate on food security from the local to global levels. While these can be provocative and challenge established wisdom, they are presented by authors that are recognized authority in the field and are present supporting evidence.
While most contributions in Global Food Security have a global or regional perspective, manuscripts that have a focus on a specific low, middle, or high-income country will be considered. In such cases, however, a novel analytical approach must be employed and the implications for food security at the regional or global level must be considered.
