Dear Readers,
Starting with the first issue of volume 21, 2005, Future Generation Computer Systems journal was relaunced with the new subtitle: "The International Journal of Grid Computing: Theory, Methods and Application"
As a result, the Aims & Scope was changed in order to focus on all the aspects of grid and distributed computing. In addition, in order to achieve a better worldwide representation, the Editorial Board structure was also changed by appointing four new Associate Editors, and by updating the Editorial Board Members in order to include specific subject area experts.
The journal continues to publish only original submissions and invited papers. In this way, the scientific value of this publication will increase for our readers as well as for our authors. Next to the regular issues, special issues are scheduled, dedicated to particular hot topics and edited by Guest Editors. The purpose of these special issues is to obtain a state-of-the-art contribution to a selected field of topical interest as well as timely insight into those specific areas.
In addition, in each issue, the Editors of EnterTheGrid, the largest directory and news service on grid computing in the world, provides a focus section, which summarizes the most important news and upcoming events in grid computing research.
The FGCS team aims to dramatically shorten the submission review- publication turnaround time through the advanced Elsevier- Electronic Submission and review system. This will guarantee a better and timely dissemination of your scientific results.
We are confident that the journal will keep abreast of the latest developments in all areas of grid computing. You are invited to send your reactions, comments suggestions and papers.

The Grid is a rapidly developing computing structure that allows components of our information technology infrastructure, computational
capabilities, databases, sensors, and people to be shared flexibly as true collaborative tools. Over the last 3 years there has been
a real explosion of new theory and technological progress supporting a better understanding of these wide-area, fully distributed computing
systems. After the advances made in distributed system design, collaborative environments, high performance computing and high throughput
computing, the Grid is the logical next step.
