Over the past several years, numerous internal and external drivers have prompted higher education leaders to re-think how research is facilitated, measured and controlled.
Competition for funding is increasing as the amount of available funding is on the decline. State governments are looking to public institutions as engines to drive innovation and spur economic development. Researchers, faced with increasing demands to produce tangible results, are looking to new technologies, social media and alternative metrics to promote and differentiate their research. Universities are attempting to keep up with evolving demands on research measurement while producing tangible results.
Institutions are balancing these demands with the necessity to provide their students and faculty with the latest technology, resources and support to create an environment where research can flourish to the benefit of all parties.
A one-day conference called Research Impact: A Discussion from Institutional, Economic, and Researcher Perspectives (#UMBresearchimpact) will bring together stakeholders from these key groups for a forum of discussion and collaboration on the measurement and impact of research.
The event will feature representatives from research institutions, funding agencies, economic development organizations and Elsevier. They will examine the evolving expectations, available solutions, measurements and best practices associated with the optimization of research impact. Attendees will be given information to help them engage with their stakeholders and initiative and continue long-term research management efforts.
