June 15, 2015

By Steve Dennis

With free app, researchers can access Mendeley on all major platforms — computer, iOS and Android

Mendeley(opens in new tab/window) — a powerful reference manager and research collaboration platform — is now available on Android.

With this release, Mendeley now has cross-platform functionality on all major platforms. Mendeley users can access their library, read and annotate PDFs, add documents, and keep everything in sync across all their devices. Over the past year, we've been working with a small internal team alongside users from our passionate Android community to bring you a great experience for reading, annotating and managing your research on the go. We developed this app in a transparent way to allow the community to comment and provide feedback.

Mendeley(opens in new tab/window) — a powerful reference manager and research collaboration platform — is now available on Android.

With Mendeley on your Android device, you can:

  • Read and annotate PDFs.

  • Sync annotations and documents across all your devices.

  • Save PDFs to your Mendeley library from other apps or your web browser.

  • Use Mendeley offline during your commute, and sync when you have connection.

  • Search your library for keywords in the Title, Authors, Publication or Abstract.

  • Edit document details (Title, Authors, Publication details, etc.).

  • Download or remove PDFs on demand to easily manage device storage space.

All features are available on your tablet or phone, and the app is fully compatible with Android Lollipop (supports Jellybean 4.1.2 and above).

If you'd like to try out Mendeley for Android(opens in new tab/window), head over to the Google Play store to download it, and please let us know what you think, it's very much a work in progress and as always we really want your feedback to help improve it!
