Institutional Agreements

For institutions with open access mandates or policies, Elsevier is working in partnership to test and learn more about how best to support sustainable open access. We are streamlining this process to make it easier for everybody involved.  We are happy to work with institutions to facilitate the successful implementation of green open access mandates. We have established specific agreements which ensure authors can comply with open access mandates from institutions such as the World Bank. These agreements are detailed below:

Institutional Agreements

Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASCR)

Elsevier and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (ASCR) have entered into an agreement to enable authors funded by the ASCR to comply with their open access mandate and also Elsevier's article posting policy.
Under this agreement, authors who publish in Elsevier journals can post their Author Accepted Manuscript to the ASCR repository after journal specific embargo periods.

CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior)

Elsevier and the CAPES organization in Brazil share the commitment to maximize the visibility of Brazilian research throughout the world. To support this common goal, Elsevier has developed a pilot to provide an open archive of selected Brazilian Research.

This open archive provides access to a watermarked PDF version of the article selected for inclusion in the pilot after a journal specific embargo. Access to the articles occurs via a registration portal within Elsevier's ScienceDirect platform. Currently over 4,000 articles are freely available as part of this pilot.

National Research Council Canada (NRC)

Elsevier and the NRC have developed an agreement to enable those authors funded by the NRC to publish in Elsevier journals and also comply with the NRC Open Access and licensing policy, as well as Elsevier's article posting policy.
Researchers funded by NRC, or those authors publishing in conjunction with or employed by the Canadian Federal Government can publish with Elsevier under a specific license agreement and then can also post their author accepted manuscript to the NRC Repository after journal specific embargo periods.

Robert Koch Institute (RKI)

Elsevier and RKI have entered into an agreement to enable authors funded by the RKI to comply with their open access mandate and also Elsevier's article posting policy.
Under this agreement, authors who publish in Elsevier journals can post their Author Accepted Manuscript to the RKI repository after journal specific embargo periods.

Free University of Brussels (ULB)

Elsevier and Free University of Brussels (ULB), have developed an agreement to enable the local archiving of articles published by the Free University of Brussels (ULB) to their repository. This archive is not intended for external use, but is developed to enable the university to maintain a PDF archive from ScienceDirect licensed content for its own internal use.

Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU)

Elsevier and the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) share the commitment to maximize the visibility of Dutch research throughout the world. To support this common goal, Elsevier has developed a pilot to provide an open archive of Dutch Medical Research.

This open archive provides access to the published journal article (PDF) selected for inclusion in the pilot after a journal specific embargo. Access to the articles occurs via a registration portal within Elsevier's ScienceDirect platform. Currently over 5,000 articles are available as part of this pilot.

World Bank

Elsevier and the World Bank have developed an agreement to enable World Bank employees and those funded by the Bank to publish in Elsevier journals and also comply with the Bank’s Open Access and licensing policy, as well as Elsevier’s article posting policy.
Researchers funded by the World Bank, or Bank employees can publish with Elsevier under a specific license agreement and then can also post their author accepted manuscript to the World Bank Repository after journal specific embargo periods.

World Health Organization (WHO)

Elsevier and the World Health Organization have developed an agreement to enable WHO employees to publish in Elsevier journals and also comply with the WHO agenda, as well as Elsevier’s article posting policy.
Employees of WHO can publish with Elsevier under a specific license agreement and then can also post their author accepted manuscript to the WHO Repository after journal specific embargo periods.
