Funding Body Agreement
Elsevier has made an agreement with FWF that will allow authors who publish in Elsevier journals to sponsor their articles. This agreement is intended to support the needs of Elsevier authors, editors, and society publishing partners, and protect the quality and integrity of the peer review process.
Project holders from the FWF are free to choose the open access option offered by Elsevier. (This option is especially recommended for researchers from the life sciences who are asked by the FWF to deposit their publications into PMC/UKPMC, see FWF Open Access Policy 3c): Open Access Policy for FWF-funded projects
FWF funded authors publishing in Elsevier journals can take up this option by paying a fee to the journal to cover the costs associated with publication. If the option for open access is chosen, the costs will be directly reimbursed by the FWF. For information about open access publication fees, please refer to the individual journal homepage or guide for authors.
The FWF can only cover publication costs under following conditions:
(1) One of the authors must be the project holder and/or a project worker.
(2) The FWF must be mentioned in the Acknowledgements as following: Austrian Science Fund (FWF): project number(s).
(3) If the project is still running or has not ended more than 36 months ago.
Authors who wish to take up this option should provide the following details:
FWF project number(s): the project(s) by which the publication was/were funded (the most important project should be listed in the first place). This is the primary information required. Additional fields that should be identified are: Author(s); Title; Journal Title; Vol/Iss; Pages; Journal ISSN; DOI Address; PMC ID.
Upon final publication, Elsevier will send to PMC the final document used to generate the published journal article that appears on ScienceDirect. This document reflects all author-agreed changes that arise from the peer-review, copy-editing and proofing processes. Elsevier will authorize its public posting on PMC, and PMC mirror sites, immediately. PMC and PMC mirror sites will also link directly to the final published journal article, which will continue to reside only on Elsevier’s websites and which Elsevier will make freely available to both non-subscribers and subscribers. Subject to certain conditions, documents published under this sponsorship model may be redistributed and reused.
This agreement with the FWF is consistent with Elsevier’s long-standing record of adapting to meet authors’ changing needs, preserving the quality and integrity of the peer review process, and providing value throughout the publishing cycle. It is another example of Elsevier’s ongoing engagement with scientific and academic communities to explore ways to deliver demonstrable and sustainable benefits for the research communities we serve.
