Major contributions to economics

Elsevier has supported the development of economics research by launching journals to meet the growing expansion of research during the last forty years. During this time, these journals have established some of the highest editorial standards and published some of the major contributions
towards the development of the field.

Nobel Laureates

There are few individuals whose work is acknowledged with the prestigious Nobel Prize, and Elsevier is proud to recognize that so many have chosen to publish their research with us.

Elsevier would like to congratulate Professor Eric S. Maskin, Editor of Economics Letters, who in 2007 has been jointly awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. This year's prize was jointly awarded to Eric S. Maskin (b.1950), Leonid Hurwicz (b.1917), and Roger
B. Myerson (b.1951) "for having laid the foundations of mechanism design theory".

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel has been awarded to 61 people since 1969, including Kenneth J. Arrow (1972) who co-launched Elsevier’s Handbooks in Economics series. In 2006 the prize was awarded to Edmund S. Phelps for his analysis of intertemporal tradeoffs in macroeconomic policy. Highly cited articles published in Elsevier journals by E.S. Phelps such as ‘Growth, wealth and the natural rate: Is Europe's jobs crisis a growth crisis?’ European Economic Review (41:3-5, 1997) can be viewed online at http://www.sciencedirect.com.
