Elsevier announces the Journal of Development Economics Best Paper Award. The winner each year receives fully expensed travel to attend the ASSA annual meeting.
Elsevier is delighted to announce that Professor Prabal Roy Chowdury of the Indian Statistical Institute, Dehli, is the winner of the inaugural Journal of Development Economics Best Paper Award, in recognition of his article “Group-lending with Sequential Financing, Contingent Renewal and Social Capital”

ELSEVIER RECOGNIZES ECONOMICS NOBEL LAUREATES
The 2007 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded to Leonid Hurwicz (USA, 1917), Eric S. Maskin (USA, 1950) and Roger B. Myerson (USA, 1951) "for having laid the foundations of mechanism design theory".
Besides publishing much of their own work with Elsevier, Leonid Hurwicz has been an author of Elsevier's handbooks in economics series; Eric Maskin is Editor of Elsevier's Economics Letters and a member of the Editorial Board for Elsevier's Games and Economic Behavior; and Roger Myerson has been involved in the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Theory and Games and Economic Behavior .

To recognise the highly valued contributions of its editors, authors and reviewers, Elsevier held a reception at the 2008 Allied Social Sciences Association meeting in New Orleans.
Elsevier was delighted to welcome Professor Eric Maskin as guest speaker at the reception who talked about his role as editor of Economics Letters.
