Field journals meet growing need

The growth in economics and finance research coincided with a trend towards greater specialization among researchers and a growing need to publish results in peer reviewed journals. Existing general journals were unable to absorb all the new output being generated. Nor were these journals in a position to provide a platform to channel the increasingly specialized scientific discourse that was taking place.

Based on experience in other scientific fields, Elsevier recognized this development and responded to meet the changing needs of economists worldwide. In collaboration with visionary and prominent economists, Elsevier was able to launch a wide range of innovative and, subsequently highly
regarded field journals.

Elsevier strongly believes in building relationships that will ultimately result in the collective advancement of knowledge, and our relationship with close to 500 society publishing partners are grounded in these shared values and beliefs.
