Deep-Sea Research Part I paper wins Frieman Prize

The paper Simple models of steady deep maxima in chlorophyll and biomass by Benjamin A. Hodges and Daniel L. Rudnick (Scripps Institution of Oceanography), published last year in Deep-Sea Research Part I, received the Frieman Prize for the best paper of the past year by a SIO graduate student.

Call for Papers for ECSS special issue

The journal Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science is encouraging submission of manuscripts for a special issue entitled Timescale- and tracer-based methods for understanding the results of complex marine models. The diagnostics to be considered may concern water, passive/inert tracers, biogeochemical variables, sediment particles, etc. Papers presenting theoretical developments or numerical methods, be they of a Eulerian or Lagrangian nature, will also be welcome. The special issue will be guest-edited by Eric Deleersnijder and Eric Delhez. Manuscripts must be submitted by March 31, 2006, at the latest. Please click here for additional information.

New book on the Ecology of Poole Harbour

The Ecology of Poole HarbourPoole Harbour's unique combination of physical characteristics provide for a rich and productive ecological community recognised for its internationally significant bird populations and as a haven for the naturalisation of exotic species. This book brings together for the first time expert contributions to provide a picture of the ecology of the Harbour system as a whole. It covers all the major habitats from reed beds and salt marshes to the extensive mudflats and unseen sub-tidal regions, while also examining in some detail a wide range of ecological phenomena and issues. > more
