– Call for Papers

Special Issue on Cross-validation of Methods for the Detection and Quantification of Microbial Pathogens and indicators of Fecal Pollution
Water Research is calling for papers for a Special Issue that will be published by the journal focusing on cross-validation of methods for the detection and quantification of microbial pathogens and indicators of fecal pollution. Microbial source identifiers are explicitly included among fecal indicators. The emphasis of the Special Issue is on the practicality of molecular-based methods and how they relate to one another and traditional methods that tend to focus on fecal indicator bacteria (FIB). Water Research plans to publish a second special issue in 2010 with field studies involving validated detection methods.

Special Issue on Transport and Fate of Colloids and Microbes in Granular Aqueous Environments
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts for consideration for publication in a special issue of Water Research on the transport and fate of colloids and microbes (TFCM) in granular aqueous environments. For more information go to: www.elsevier.com/locate/watres

Special Issue on Applications of Advanced Oxidation Processes in Wastewater Treatment
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts to be considered for publication in a special issue of Water Research on the applications of advanced oxidation processes (AOP’s) in wastewater treatment. For more information go to: www.elsevier.com/locate/watres

Featured Special Issues

Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans
OCEANIC FRONTS
Volume 45, Issues 3-4, pp. 69-320 (August 2008)

In 2002, the Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans and Journal of Marine Systems have published the first Special Issues on Ocean Fronts based on presentation at the Special Session on Ocean Fronts at the 2000AGU Ocean Sciences Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. These issues turned out to be a success as they are widely read and cited. Therefore 6 years later we set out to produce a sequel, drawing from a pool of presentations at two meetings: (1) Special Session on Processes at Oceanic Fronts (Matthias Tomczak and Igor Belkin, conveners) at the 2005 IAPSO General Assembly in Cairns, Australia, and (2) various sessions at the 2006 AGU Ocean Sciences Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology
Marine ecology: A tribute to the life and work of John S. Gray
Volume 366, Issues 1-2, pp. 1-204 (15 November 2008)

The papers in this volume result from an invitation to the friends of John S. Gray, colleagues, former students, acquaintances and free-thinkers working in his field to contribute thought provoking, review-type papers or primary research papers that have broad implications, rather than more narrowly focused ones.
