New
Feature: PERK - Publishing Ethics Resource Kit
| Supporting our editors dealing with publishing ethics issues by providing guidelines & policies, recommended courses of action & sample letters |
 |
In March this year, Elsevier announced the launch of its Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK). The aim of this kit is to act as a resource and provide advisory support for addressing queries about issues such as plagiarism, authorship disputes, multiple submission and/or publication, and research misconduct: www.elsevier.com/publishingethicskit
As well as launching PERK, we are also active in other publishing ethics initiatives. We recently enlisted all of our journals into COPE (*Committee on Publishing Ehtics www.publicationethics.org.uk) - ensuring that our editors have an alternative authoritative source to refer to when dealing with complex ethical issues.

Aquatic Botany
Mangrove Ecology – Applications in Forestry and Costal Zone Management
Volume 89, Issue 2, Pages 77-274 (August 2008)
In this millennium, we must ask if the diversity of mangroves and the many ecosystem functions they provide can be retained and sustained when mangrove forests continue to be cut to provide logs for charcoal kilns and wood chips for rayon mills, filled will garbage and ‘reclaimed” for coastal developments. The twelve papers in this special issue of Aquatic Botany provide comprehensive reviews of the fundamental knowledge that scientists have accumulated over hundreds of years that can be used to answer these pressing questions.

New Book on Biological Wastewater Treatment
Biological Wastewater Treatment - Principles, Modelling and Design
Editor(s): M. Henze, M. C. M. van Loosdrecht, G.A. Ekama and D. Brdjanovic
Publication Date: 15 Aug 2008 • ISBN: 9781843391883
Pages: 600 • Hardback
Over the past twenty years, the knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment have advanced extensively and moved away from empirically-based approaches to a first principles approach embracing chemistry, microbiology, physical and bioprocess engineering, and mathematics. For a new generation of young scientists and engineers entering the wastewater treatment profession, the quantity, complexity and diversity of these new developments can be overwhelming, particularly in developing countries where access is not readily available to advanced level tertiary education courses in wastewater treatment. This book addresses this deficiency.
