CAPES to Provide Scopus Access to Brazilian Researchers
Scopus Selected for its Comprehensive, Multidisciplinary Coverage
Amsterdam – May 25, 2007 – Scopus®, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research, and the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) announced an agreement to make Scopus available to 44 of Brazil’s leading universities and research institutes. Scopus was selected for its comprehensive and multidisciplinary coverage.
"In signing with Scopus, CAPES fulfils its commitment to make available to Brazil’s scientific and technological communities a powerful tool that provides access to state-of-the-art knowledge from all over the world. Scopus is the largest multidisciplinary database on scientific publications and it substantially increases the number of journals that may be reached and viewed by our scientists," said CAPES President Professor Jorge Guimarães in a statement at the signing ceremony held at the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
Another factor driving CAPES’ interest in Scopus was the database’s research performance measurement capabilities and its potential to further the scientific development of Brazil. Professor Guimarães added: "Scopus offers the possibility to quickly and precisely access innumerable data on the development and advancement of our science and the highlights of our schooling and makes it possible to compare with other countries. Finally, in making available to our researchers, graduate students and their mentors one more service with free access we are supporting the academic community and therefore contributing to the development of our country."
Jaco Zijlstra, Scopus Director said: "We are proud to have been selected to join CAPES’ already impressive body of scientific resources and to provide CAPES and their research community with the tools they need to further the advancement of science in Brazil."
