Elsevier Announces New Editor For Heart & Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care

Dr. Nancy S. Redeker assumes leadership of a unique journal devoted to acute cardiac and respiratory issues

Philadelphia, PA, 8 December, 2010 – Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, is pleased to announce that Nancy S. Redeker, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, accepted the position of Editor-in-Chief of Heart & Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care (Heart & Lung). She is the former Associate Editor of the Journal and succeeds Kathleen Stone, PhD, RN, FAAN, who served as an esteemed Editor for more than 15 years. Dr. Redeker is committed to enhancing the excellence of the journal’s offerings consistent with its scope and expediting the article publication process.

Dr. Redeker is a Professor & Associate Dean of Scholarly Affairs at Yale University School of Nursing in New Haven, CT. For more than 20 years, she has conducted research focusing on symptoms and quality of life of acutely ill patients and patients with chronic cardiac conditions. Her most recent work has included studies of sleep disorders and their consequences among patients who have cardiovascular disorders, including heart failure and ischemic heart disease. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the American Nurses Foundation, and has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.

The new Editor-In-Chief is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association and the President of the Eastern Nursing Research Society. She previously served on the faculties of the College of Nursing, Rutgers-the State University of New Jersey and The School of Nursing of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She earned an AB in Sociology from Rutgers University, BSN and MSN from Seton Hall University, a PhD in Nursing Research and Theory Development from New York University, and completed a research fellowship in sleep disorders at New York University School of Medicine.
