“Although not everyone is going to agree with every aspect of the turn to pragmatism that has driven China since the open door policy was embraced by Deng Xiao Peng, the realization that different mechanisms and drivers can all assist social and economic progress has demonstrated how commercial and public sector forces can combine to achieve progress..
This is as relevant to publishers and the information industry as to modern nation states. We see that the concern of individuals for moral progress and a more equitable society is in no way contradicted by their activity as employees seeking to add value in such areas as publishing. In few walks of life, especially in the private sector, can there be more fulfilling areas to work than in assisting the dissemination of science and the proper valuation of its contribution to a more harmonious world society."
